DOROTHEA CHRISTMAS DIVE 2016

Every year we head up to Dorothea Quarry in Wales for a Christmas dive. This year was no exception, so an early get up at stupid o'clock and off to Wales.

Dorothea Quarries location.

The quarry is 110 meters deep and has flooded leaving a stunning lake with great diving.

View over Dorothea quarry.
It is used by technical divers for training but we just use it for socialising and having a few leisure dives. Usual features are the dead cars dumped in the lake, a boat and a few additional bits of rubbish. The interest comes from some of the old mine buildings, still intact, cranes and cabling some of which has been adorned by divers, e.g. the Santa's grotto, picnic site and various road signs.

Video of Santa's grotto with flickering Christmas tree lights (25 meters).

I completed two dives on this visit, including a trip through the 22 meter tunnel and a visit to the crane.
