3DEEPS CHALLENGE

3 Deeps Challenge 2013

The 2014 successful 3Deeps team

0ne year on and we’re back doing it again. In 2012, myself and two buddies invented the 3Deeps challenge to amuse ourselves and add a bit of novelty to diving inland waters. Half an hour later we had decided to include raising money for The Christie; six weeks later we were in a minibus heading to Scotland. We raised £2000 and in 2013 we were back trying to beat the 10 hour 14 minute time and raise some more money.

Starting at the ‘A’ Frames dive site in Loch Long, we completed the first dive by 7.30 and surfaced to the sun rising and our shore team (Rob and Pete) holding welcoming tea and bacon butties. A minor
catastrophe occurred en route when the traffic stopped and we started considering alternative ideas. Fortunately the traffic moved and we continued our journey onwards. Capernwray was completed in a one hour fifteen minute turn around with blueberry and lemon cake included.Last stop Vivian and setting a new record was out of our sights. A quick phone call to confirm John would stay open, and off we trundled. It was on arrival that Rick noticed we were could still break the record but entry had to be in fifteen minutes. Amazing speed and we were in and diving, breaking our record for the journey by 6 minutes.

Ten hours and eight minutes, 333 miles travelled, 3 countries dived in (Scotland, England and Wales) and 3 dives completed (18 meters in depth and 30 minutes minimum duration).

Thanks to Apecks who donated a new set of XTX200 regs for auctioning, Capernwray and Vivian for supporting the fundraising so generously and all the team who gave up their time and their weekend for such a good cause.

If you wish to donate some money to The Christie cancer hospital please log onto www.justgiving.com/3deeps  It’s easy and is going to a good cause.
