HOLYHEAD AND FLINTLOCKS

Finding a free weekend gave us a chance to head to Anglesey for a couple of dives. We met up at Holyhead marina on his rib. Trearddur Bay was blown out so he suggested a couple of local sites to get us into the water.
Heading out of the marina we skirted the outer wall towards the north intending to dive an area where an old WW2 plane wreck was lying, however, even this was too rough to dive. The visibility looked poor and thoughts of a good dive were fading fast. We moved to a more sheltered area and rolled off into the water.
Against all the odds we had great dive. A maximum depth of 12 meters along a rocky cliff. marine life was abundant and tucked away were large lobsters and crabs with Many schools of small fish sheltering amongst the kelp and rocks.
We returned to the marina and rested up with bacon butties, cups of tea and cake.

Coffee and cake between dives

View over the harbour towards the dive site
For our second dive we headed in the same direction round to a small sheltered bay to dive an old wreck. Non of the infrastructure was left but a great deal of pottery and if lucky, some flintlocks that were part of the cargo. The good visibility quickly disappeared as four divers acted like a herd of feeding Dugons as we scavenged for these flintlocks.
Once again a good dive and great fun.
